Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a makeup artist? Have you ever wanted to know what tasks they do on a daily basis? Makeup artists do a lot more than just slap makeup on their clients; they’re responsible for the way someone looks from head to toe. As a makeup artist, you’re responsible for helping your clients feel good about themselves and for making them look good in front of others. Ultimately, how long a person stays in his or her career largely depends on whether he got into makeup artistry to help people feel good or simply to earn money.

So you want to be a makeup artist? It’s a tough gig, but somebody’s got to do it! If you’re thinking about pursuing a career in makeup artistry, it’s important to know what you’re getting yourself into. Here’s a typical day in the life of a makeup artist, from start to finish.

🕔 5:00 AM

The alarm goes off, and it’s time to start the day! After getting out of bed and taking care of my morning routine, I head to the kitchen to make breakfast. I like to keep things light in the morning, so I typically have some fruit and yogurt or oatmeal. I also make sure to drink plenty of water; staying hydrated is important for keeping your skin looking its best.

🕖 7:00 AM

Time to head to work! I drive to the salon where I’m employed and clock in for my shift. The first thing I do is set up my station, making sure I have all the tools and products I need within reach. Then I wait for my first client of the day to arrive.

🕗 8:00 AM

My first client arrives, and we get started on her hair and makeup. She’s going for a natural look today, so I use mostly neutral tones on her eyes and face. We take our time chatting and getting to know each other as we work; I find that this helps put my clients at ease.

🕙 10:00 AM

Once we finish up with my client’s hair and makeup, she heads out into the world looking and feeling fabulous! My next few hours are spent meeting with new clients, doing touch-ups, and teaching some of our newer employees some tips and tricks of the trade.

🕞 3:00 PM

Around this time, we start getting busy with clients who are coming in for special occasions like weddings or proms. These clients usually want something a bit more glamorous than everyday looks, so it’s fun to experiment with different techniques.

🕖 7:00 PM

My shift comes to an end, and I clean up my station before heading home for the night. Although it was a long day, I feel fulfilled knowing that I helped my clients look and feel their best. Plus, it’s always nice when someone compliments me on their hair or makeup!

Conclusion:

Now that you’ve seen what a typical day in the life of a makeup artist is like, you might have a better idea of whether or not this career is right for you. Makeup artistry is no easy gig! A career as a makeup artist is definitely not for everyone. It requires passion, dedication, and above all else, a love of making people look and feel beautiful. If you think you’ve got what it takes to pursue a career in makeup artistry and thought of being your own boss, working with glamorous clients, and making money while doing what you love appeals to you, then go for it! There’s no reason why you can’t become a makeup artist yourself. Just be prepared for early mornings (and sometimes even late nights), long hours on your feet, and lots of patience!
